Here's a native shrub that checks off all the boxes! Known as the 'forsythia of the wild" Northern Spicebush has beautiful foliage and early Spring blooms to replace non-natie forsythia in your garden.. In early Autumn, deck in golden leaves with bright red berries for birds.
And then there's a "cute caterpillar" too! Northern Spicebush is the larval host plant for butterflies and moths including the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail and the Spicebush Swallowtail butterflies
